Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to best use the macros that come with Siemens EPLAN. If you’re familiar with macros, there are few things more frustrating than trying to decipher the information found on Siemens’ website. Fortunately, I finally figured it out. So in this post, I'll give you an overview of what macros are and how they can be used in Siemens EPLAN. What Macros Are and What They Do A macro is a step that your computer performs over and over again. Macros can be used to automate a whole bunch of different tasks, and they’re one of the most useful features of Siemens EPLAN. Macros are especially handy when you need repetitive tasks or procedures to be done over and over again. For example, macros can be used to store commonly-used data such as username, password, IP address, volumes of disk space, software versions etc. There are some common macros that are built-in with EPLAN, but there are also some that are useful to have on your computer. I’ll cover some of the macros that come with EPLAN below, but you can also download macros from websites like macroscriptions.com Why It’s Useful to Include Macros in Siemens EPLAN Whenever you have a machine connected to your network, there are various data that your administrator needs to keep track of. Namely, this includes logs or any other important data that comes into or out of the machine. Macros can be used to keep track of this information and store it in a database. If you’re a sysadmin at a company, you don’t want to have to look through your entire hard drive, looking for these logs because it can take a long time sometimes. There are other reasons as well, but common ones include: Ensuring that machines connect to the network or each other as expected. Making sure that software updates are applied automatically. Checking for any anomaly in the machine's behaviour that might indicate a problem. All of these are possible with macros. They can even be used for automating security procedures, software updates etc. Macros That Come With EPLAN - AUTICAD, EXCEL, EXCELNETWORK, SQLCLIENT, TIMER/SHELL/EDIT/WWW/CBCONSOLE There are some macros that come with Siemens EPLAN that can be very useful to an administrator. These include: AUTICAD – This is the macro that allows you to automatically transfer your files to AutoCAD. It’s extremely useful for drawings that your company might use for proposals or applications. 8eeb4e9f32 17
